In honor of its centennial in 2010, the Zoo will celebrate 100 years of memories with a new exhibit developed in partnership with the Missouri History Museum. Zootennial, presented by First Bank will open on May 15, 2010 in Peabody Hall, a newly renovated exhibit gallery which was once the historic 1917 Elephant House next to the Bird House at the Zoo. Some highlights include film footage from the elephant, lion and chimp shows, Wild Kingdom living room with clips from "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom," mount of Phil the gorilla, and a model of Siegfried the walrus which mists water just like Siegfried used to do. Plus, hundreds of personal memories and photos submitted by visitors, stories shared by Zoo staff, photo opportunities and much more.
The Zootennial exhibit will be open daily, year round. Admission is free.

See the "Golden Age of Piracy" come to life in Real Pirates at the Saint Louis Science Center. The 16,000-square-foot, interactive exhibition unlocks the real world of pirates. Real Pirates tells the true story of the Whydah- a slave ship turned pirate ship that sank off the coast of Cape Cod nearly 300 years ago. At the core of the exhibition are artifacts painstakingly recovered from the ocean floor, including treasure chests of gold coins, jewelry and the most advanced weaponry of the time. • See more than 200 artifacts from the first fully-authenticated pirate ship ever discovered in U.S. waters. • See and touch real pirate treasure. • Go "below deck" of the Whydah in a life-size replica of the ship. • Experience the compelling true stories of members of the Whydah crew.
